Studio

Mother of Mountain is a family-run, artist-led silver studio creating handmade sterling silver jewellery in small batches.

Our studio is focused on highlighting the beauty, strength and mystery of the natural world.

Mother of Mountain exists within a world shaped by folklore, landscape and powerful feminine figures. At its centre is the mountain: ancient, protective, wild and enduring.

Our jewellery is imagined as objects from that world: handmade sterling silver rings, pendants, charms and small silver sculptures designed to be carried into everyday life.

Silver sculptures you can wear, to empower you to be strong like the mountain.

How We Work

We work in collections, developing and making pieces in small batches that are released when they are ready.

Working this way gives us the freedom to let each collection take the time it needs.

Because our jewellery is handmade, no two pieces will ever be completely identical. Small variations are part of the process, making every piece perfectly unique.

Materials

Our silver is always sourced responsibly from reputable suppliers, including recycled silver.

Recycled silver is salvaged from scrap and unwanted pieces, reducing our reliance on newly mined material and helping to preserve the natural resources we respect.

In that spirit, we will always strive to use non-virgin and recycled materials wherever possible, from our silver to our packaging.

What is 925 silver?

925 silver, also known as sterling silver, is made from 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals.

Pure silver is naturally very soft, so the addition of a small amount of alloy gives it the strength and durability needed for jewellery while preserving the character and beauty of silver.

Our silver is free from nickel and cadmium.

Jewellery Care Guide

Every piece is handmade. Treat the silver and its details gently. Tarnish over time is a natural characteristic of sterling silver.

Storage

Keep your jewellery in its box, laid flat in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid placing other objects on top, especially when a piece has fine details.

Wearing

Put your jewellery on after perfume and hair products have settled. Take it off before bed, and handle delicate details and any pin fastening gently.

Cleaning

Wipe your piece with a soft, dry cloth after wear. For tarnish, use a silver polishing cloth gently. For a deeper clean, use warm, soapy water and a soft-bristle brush, then dry thoroughly with a cloth. Keep silver dips and ultrasonic cleaners away from handmade pieces.

If a piece feels fragile, a pin becomes stiff or loose, or you are unsure how to clean it, email the studio before trying to fix it yourself.

Is Mother of Mountain jewellery handmade?

Yes. Our sterling silver jewellery is handmade in small batches. Because each piece is made by hand, there may be slight variations from one piece to another. We see these differences as part of the character of the work, making every piece perfectly unique.

What is 925 sterling silver?

925 sterling silver is made from 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals. The additional alloy gives the silver greater strength and durability, making it suitable for jewellery.

How do I know my ring size?

How should I care for my silver jewellery?

Sterling silver naturally changes over time and may tarnish with exposure to air, moisture and everyday wear. See our Jewellery Care Guide for our full recommendations.

How long will my order take to ship?

We will endeavour to dispatch your jewellery within one week of your order and will provide shipping details once it has been sent. International shipping is available, although international orders may take longer for us to process and may also take longer in transit.

Can I return my order?

If you are unhappy with your piece, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your order to let us know you would like to return it. You then have a further 14 days to send it back to us. Returned pieces should be sent back in good condition. Once we receive your return, we will process your refund in accordance with our returns policy.

Commissioned, bespoke and personalised pieces are made specifically for you and cannot be returned unless they are faulty.

Do you accept commissions?

Yes. If you have a particular piece in mind for yourself or a loved one, email hello@motherofmountain.com with your idea. We will let you know whether it is something we can make and fit into our production schedule. Commissioned, bespoke and personalised pieces cannot be returned unless they are faulty.
